Landscapes from the surroundings of Klosterneuburg are among the most important paintings of Max Kahrer. For centuries, the “Au” (transl. meadow), one of the last primeval forests in Europe, has been an important recreational area for every citizen of Klosterneuburg, as for Kahrer himself. His oeuvre includes several paintings of this beautiful place in different seasons. In this oil painting, his usually rather delicate pastel tones give way to strong reds, ochres and blues. It skillfully reflects the glory and perfection of nature and the pleasure one feels during a sunny autumn walk.
