    Description

Max Kahrer studied at the Vienna Akademy of fina arts under Runpler and Griepenkerl. In 1903 he was already active in the Hagenabund and became a member from 1905 to 1907. His first solo exhibition was held at the Klosterneuburg monastery in 1908. During this time he became friends with famous Egon Schiele who drew several portrait studies of Kahrer. He also exhibited at the Secession Exhibition in 1908 an from 1920 in the Wiener Künstlerhaus.

Kahrers main motifs always were depictures of the nature in the vicinity of Klosterneuburg. Portraits and still lives are very rare. His paintings mostly show a friendly and lifelike colour palette. Even when he used mostly blue and green colour tones his paintings never grew cold or rebuking, in contrary, they always celebrated the uplifting spirit and perfection of nature.
