At the end of the 1930s, the Hagenauer workshop produced various vessels in the shape of birds. They started out with objects that had details like feet and wings but as they progressed, it got more and more abstract. This piece, which is beaten out of a single sheet of brass, is a perfect example of such reduced and humoristic objects.
