    Description

The Austrian sculptor Wilhelm Bormann studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts from 1898. He worked in the Viennese Mosaic Workshop Leopold Forstner and from 1934 was a lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology. The Vienna School of Arts and Crafts presented his models at several exhibitions and the Goldscheider company produced some of his designs. One of Bormann’s best-known works is the design of the entrance portal to the Allina private commercial school in Vienna.

Our figure with the evocative name “The Source” was probably executed by Ernst Wahliss around 1903. Its paintwork is strongly reminiscent of Gustav Klimt’s fashion designs and is a classic example of Secessionist aesthetics.
