Franz Hagenauer’s characteristically reduced head portraits are among his most significant works. Hagenauer kept developing his style over the years until the 1980s. Our wall sculpture of a woman dates back to this late period.
In 1970, when Franz Hagenauer was a professor at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, he drew a strong creative inspiration from exchanging with his students. The reduction of physical features was no longer enough for him and so he began to reduce objects from three-dimensionality to a two-dimensional plane. Our metal sculpture is a wonderful example of this approach. Notwithstanding its few attributes, it conveys an extraordinary radiance.
