    Description

Depictions of female faces and bodies were a central theme of French Art Nouveau. Works by Alphons Mucha, Eugène Grasset, Paul Berthon Chéret and Georges de Feure shaped an entire style. Mucha even gave his name to the famous “style Mucha”.
This extraordinary vase, probably designed by Nikolaus Kannhäuser, dates from around 1898 and depicts a young lady. The maiden, with delicate flowers and leaves in her hair, is surrounded by a golden forest. The glaze is applied like a relief, which gives it a striking depth. The quality of painting on a vase of this size is impressive and the color scheme presents itself extremely harmoniously.
The vase is made of a specific material developed by Amphora known as ivory porcelain. It bears a complete marking on the bottom.
