Vase with iridescent leaves overlays, Johann Loetz Witwe, unidentified decoration, ca. 1902, signed
This vase is an absolute rarity. The glass mass for the white leaves on the body was inserted hot into the not-yet-cooled glass mass and afterwards iridized. This is a very complex technique, which required a high technical knowledge in this craft and professional expertise. Objects with such inserted leaves are extremely rare and were probably made in the period from 1902 to 1903. Due to the great effort in production, vases of this type were probably only produced as exhibition objects for trade fairs and did not go into the series production.
