This vase was designed for the World Exhibition Paris 1900. It is one of those objects that was missing in the current literature Lötz 1900. Die Glasfabrik Lötz auf der Pariser Weltausstellung 1900 by E. Ploil and T. Sharp until now. It was only documented with a paper pattern. The dimensions of the vase correspond exactly to the scale indicated on said technical drawing. The decor Phenomenon Genre 384 was probably an in-house design by Loetz. In addition to the large, floral Art Nouveau shape, it is the elaborate decoration that makes this vase such an exceptional object. It consists of a multitude of overlays of green, brown, white and blue threads spun onto the still uninflated workpiece and then artfully distorted.
At a cost of 70 francs, the vase ranged among the most expensive products presented there at the time. The elaborate decoration harmonized perfectly with the considerable size and was intended to outshine Tiffany‘s much more expensive glasses, which were very successful at the time. Loetz consequently achieved their international breakthrough at the Paris World Exihbition of 1900 and received the well-deserved award, the Grand Prix.
