Josef Hoffmann used this shape for the first time in the VIII. Viennese Secession Exhibition in 1900 along with the famous “Vases in Wooden Frames”. The geometrically constructed body is structured by three small rods. During the manufacturing process, these rods were applied at the bottom of the vase and pulled out to meet the overhanging lip at the top. Josef Hoffmann chose Creta Glatt, a reduced decoration, to let the design speak for itself. The design is also shown in the 1901 magazine Die Kunst. In addition to Hoffmann’s Loetz glasses, vases by Koloman Moser, Robert Holubetz and Karl Keller also shone at that exhibition.
The cooperation of Loetz and the glass publishing company E. Bakalowits Soehne lasted 30 years. However, the most significant creations by famous designers in terms of art history date back to 1900 – 1903.
