    Description

Gustave Serrurier-Bovy was a Belgian artist and architect who was one of the pioneers of the Art Nouveau era. His work was strongly influenced by the English Arts & Crafts Movement. The artist first came across this artistic movement during a visit to London in 1884. The strict, clear elements of this style fascinated the forty-year-old Serrurier-Bovy. His future work was enormously inspired by this important movement. Several revolutionary designs followed, which were extremely well-received by his contemporaries in Europe.

Today, his designs can be seen at the Museé D’Orsay, the Art & History Museum in Brussels, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, among others. Our beautiful vitrine is likely to be a custom design and therefore a significant one-of-a-kind piece. A modified design was published in 1897.
