Desk, furniture factory August Knobloch’s Nachfolger, ca. 1908
The furniture factory August Knobloch’s Nachfolger was one of the most renowned cabinetmakers’ workshops in Vienna during the period around 1900. Their high-caliber furniture was regularly presented and praised in the exhibitions of the Vienna Secession as well as at the most important Austrian arts and crafts shows. Due to the great reputation of the furniture factory, designers such as Otto Prutscher also commissioned the company to carry out important pieces of work.
Our desk is characterized above all by the high quality of the carpentry work and the use of unusual materials: The desk is made of oak wood and was fitted with elegant fittings made of alpaca, an alloy of zinc, nickel and copper. The austere, minimalist shape and practical size make this desk a very special piece of furniture and a wonderful work of art.
