Ceramic hen, Fritzi Low, Wiener Werkstatte, 1920s, marked
The employees from the ceramics department of the Wiener Werkstätte achieved particular fame. Many of them attended school under Josef Hoffmann or Dagobert Peche and were subsequently employed directly by the Wiener Werkstätte. Among the most famous artists are Gudrun Baudisch, Vally Wieselthier and Kitty Rix. Fritzi Löw’s products are also highly regarded by collectors and are sought-after art objects.
This delightful ceramic hen was created after 1920. The wings on top are removable and hide a small cavity, probably meant for jewelry or spices.
