Bib.: The Studio yearbook of decorative art (1914), S. 195.
Designed by Karl Klaus, a student of Josef Hoffmann at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, and executed by Ernst Wahliss in Vienna.
The dramatic pose is complemented by an exceptionally rich surface decoration in deep blue, black and green with gilt details. Made in Serapis faience, the figure combines sculpture and ornament in a particularly striking way.
The model is generally known as Salome, although contemporary sources also refer to it simply as a Dancer. A comparable example in the GRASSI Museum in Leipzig is dated 1912/13.
