Max Snischek (1891–1968) was an Austrian artist of the Vienna Modernism movement, influenced by the aesthetics of the Wiener Werkstätte. His designs for fashion, textiles, and jewelry are characterized by clean lines, delicate ornamentation, and a balanced relationship between decoration and function. Snischek exemplifies the transition from arts and crafts to modern design in the interwar period.
The Viennese ceramics manufacturer Keramos (founded in 1919/1920) combined artistic standards with craftsmanship and industrial production. With its figurative and decorative works — from dancers to expressive vessels — it embodied the elegant design language of Art Deco. Together, Snischek and Keramos represent the Viennese idea of applied art that combines beauty and utility at the highest level.
