    Description

Max Kahrer studied at the Vienna Academy of fine arts under Runpler and Griepenkerl. In 1903, he was already active in the famous Hagenbund and was a member from 1905 to 1907. His first solo exhibition was held at the Klosterneuburg monastery in 1908. During this time, he became friends with famous Egon Schiele, who drew several portrait studies of Kahrer. He also exhibited at the Secession Exhibition in 1908 and from 1920 in the Wiener Künstlerhaus.
Kahrers main motifs always were depictions of the nature in the vicinity of Klosterneuburg. Portraits and still lives are very rare. His paintings mostly show a friendly and lifelike colour palette. Even if he used mostly blue and green colour tones his paintings never grew cold or rebuking, in contrary, they always celebrated the uplifting spirit and perfection of nature.
