Born in Bohemia, Richard Teschner was a very significant artist of Viennese Jugendstil. His most important works include hand puppets, paintings and works of arts and crafts. Teschner started his career in Vienna as a member of the famous Wiener Werkstatte and in a short period of time, he developed into one of the most known artists in the Viennese high society of the time. The private puppet theatre performances in his flat were well known even beyond Vienna. Today, his artworks are exhibited in many museums around the world.
This figurine portrays a flower witch and was made by Teschner in the year 1913. Two very similar sculptures are in the collection of the Theatermuseum Wien (Vienna Theatre Museum). The stunning execution and the intricate use of precious materials make this object a real treasure of Viennese Jugendstil.
