Five brass-dishes, Dagobert Peche, Wiener Werkstatte, ca. 1920, marked
As a founding member of the „Osterreichischer Werkbund”, Dagobert Peche was introduced to the Wiener Werkstatte by Josef Hoffmann. Hoffmann himself said: “Not even every one hundred years, every three hundred years maybe, a genius just like him is born in a country. Dagobert Peche was the greatest ornaments genius that Austria had since the Baroque.”
Even today, designs by Dagobert Peche are highly demanded collectors’ items. During his brief period at the Wiener Werkstatte (8 years, until his death), Peche designed a multitude of objects with exceptional ornaments, among others these ashtrays. They are marked at the bottom with the WW-signet and have the model number M as 2.
